The African Culture Fund’ s Call for proposals dedicated to the Solidarity Fund for Artists and Cultural Organizations in Africa (SOFACO), Batch No. 4 “Special Covid-19 / Individual Artists” was launched on November 05, 2021, and was closed on December 05.

The main objective of SOFACO is to strengthen the resilience capacity of artists and cultural organizations through support for the creation and reconstruction of the social fabric of the artistic sector in Africa in the face of the COVID-19 crisis.

At closing date, 360 applications were registered, including 219 French-speaking files and 141 English-speaking files, coming from 36 African countries.

The selection process was undertaken in three stages: the registration and examination of the applications leading to a clean registration file, the preselection and evaluation, and the final selection by an autonomous and independent selection panel.

The panel made up of Ousseynou Wade (Sénégal) and Edwige Aplogan (Bénin), met virtually on December 24, 2021, to proceed to the final selection.

At the end of the deliberations, 31 applications were selected from 23 African countries.

The African Culture Fund would like to renew its thanks to the donor artists, patrons, and partners, in particular the DOEN Foundation (Netherlands), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (Mali), the Fondation pour le Développement de la Culture Contemporaine Africaine (Morocco) and the Fonds pour le Développement culturel et touristique (Burkina Faso), for their support.
