LEWO AFRICA PROGRAM

Capacity building in Leadership and Management

for women in African cultural and creative industries

The African Culture Fund has always placed gender equality at the heart of its initiatives and it is with the aim of contributing to a better empowerment of women in the arts and cultural sector that we have decided to set up the LEWO AFRICA PROGRAM (Leadership & Empowerment for Women in Africa) to strengthen their leadership and managerial skills.

It is in the continuity of the ACF ACADEMY program that we launched on March 13, 2023, the implementation of the LEWO AFRICA program for 50 women in the African cultural sector.

The LEWO AFRICA program is three-yearly and aims to stimulate and strengthen the competitiveness of female arts professionals, through the organization of one boot camp per year until 2025, in three regions of the continent (West Africa, East Africa and Southern Africa) including:

– capacity building sessions in cultural management, leadership, personal branding, digital marketing, financial education, etc.;

– residencies for artistic creations.

At the end of the boot camps, the ACF will give a 2,000 euros grant to each of the laureates to give impetus to their careers and the follow-up of their development will be done through a coaching and mentoring mechanism, provided by great managers and leaders from all parts of Africa.

The first LEWO AFRICA boot camp took place from March 13 to 25, 2023 in the creative city of Ségou in Mali.

It brought together 15 female visual artists and cultural entrepreneurs from West and Central Africa.
