The “ORI-DJIIN” project by Arouna Soundiata GUINDO (BENIN) | Call #11

Project description:

This project comes in a choreographic creation that addresses the question of origins, identity, the impetus of creative processes and the part of trance and transcendence they imply.

In Yoruba, “ori” means the creator, the divine. “Djinn” refers to supernatural spirits or creatures in Muslim mythology. Combining the two terms to create a play on words, the title ORI-DJINN of this creation refers to the question of cultural origins: the artist’s quest for identity as a mixed-race Beninese, Malian, born in Côte d’Ivoire.
